As you would expect from a cycling Mecca, Dennis has several climbs to offer. You probably don’t want to choose and do them all!
What Dennis says about his favorite climbs; “There are so many climbs to discovery here, I could take you out for weeks. But I would definitely pick the Sant Hilari climb. You would need to pick again though, because we can climb Sant Hilari clockwise and counterclockwise. Same mountain, two very different rides. From the town of Angles it will take you almost 25 kilometers of climbing to reach the town of Sant Hilari, whereas the climb from Santa Coloma will just take you 12 kilometers. This one is of course steeper than the other. Whichever one you pick, it will give you amazing views over the Natural Park of Montseny and some nice descents. An even better option is to take two days to do both versions.
Another one of my favorites is the climb to Sant Marti Sacalm or ‘Amer’ as the pros call it here. The start of the climb is only one hour of cycling away from Girona. This is the number one climb for the pros to do their serious training efforts. Enjoy the roads towards the climb and get your legs prepared. The first 250 meters are steep but after that you will find yourself in a steady climb to the top.
Finally, we should do the Roccacorba. When cycling in Girona you cannot leave without conquering this climb. I know many great ways to get to the start of the climb. From there, enjoy almost 10 kilometers of climbing that elevates you an impressive 750 meters. Believe me, it is a challenge!”
