What Paul says about ‘his Amstel Gold’; “Limburg and the Amstel Gold Race really hold a special place in my heart. This race was absolutely suited for me. I wanted to make it to the podium at least once or perhaps even win, a dream I unfortunately never fulfilled. Holding the record for most participations is something nice to have as an alternative. What makes the Amstel special is it’s challenging route. Short climbs that kind of exhaust you slowly but surely, while riding through stunning scenery. Also the complexity of the route itself was always an advantage for me. Where others were getting kind of mixed up or even lost, I always knew exactly where I was. I simply loved the ‘Amstel’ and it’s where I have made the most kilometers for sure.
