Serge’s Hometown
Serge lives in the gorgeous Belle Epoque-style seaside town of De Haan, close to the famous city of Brugge, known also as the scenic departure city of the legendary Ronde van Vlaanderen. In Serge’s home area there are so many routes to choose from but whether he will be taking you along the seaside or into the countryside, arriving back into Brugge is always a treat.
What Serge says about his hometown rides; “Probably most people think about cobbles or the Ardennes when they think about riding in Belgium. But actually the part where we live is different, gorgeous as well and offers endless possibilities. I am sure people have seen the great images displayed during the recent World Championships where the first week of races crossed right through my beautiful hometown region. In this area you can ride through wide ‘polder’ landscapes as we call them, around the famous city of Brugge and between the coastal line. During our ride we will pass beautiful towns like Damme and Lissewege, the white village, who all have a rich history in the foundation of Flanders today. And that offer great places for a delicious stopover in idyllic settings. The region also offers endless green landscapes to ride through before we head to the coastal line, another unique experience. For my home rides, I always try to combine the countryside scenery with the great sea views. Truly an amazing combination!”
