Stef’s Brabant Road
Born and raised in North Brabant, the Burgundy province in the south of The Netherlands, Stef will take you deep through his homeland with this ride. This area in The Netherlands is famous for its ‘criteriums’, celebrating each years’ Tour de France heroes in summer night races around the village church. The Burgundy culture, passion for cycling and beautiful nature make a perfect combination for a great cycling adventure.
What Stef says about his favorite West-Brabant ride; “The roots of the most successful Dutch riders in history are here. We can meet where the first Amstel Gold Race ever started, before it went to Maastricht. This is the land where ‘dikes’ protect you from the water, and the reason why local cyclists specialized themselves in riding and competing in windy conditions. Hence, why many of them became time trial specialists just like myself. We can also cover some cobbles, which we have in Brabant and the notorious ‘Zuid Westhoek’ too. And if your group is up for it, we can try out how to ride in ‘waaiers’ as we call them, the formation riding technique to best conquer the wind as a group. Or we can try out how a team time trial works.”
