Maarten was part of the World Tour for 11 years, riding most of his years at Rabobank and Team Lotto Jumbo. He rode all the Grand Tours, the monumental classics and made it to an impressive eleven starts at de Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris Roubaix.
When talking about matters that move Maarten, it was a dream come true for him to be on the podium in Roubaix in 2011. Especially for this team player, who was often serving the team and sometimes going for the victory himself like in the Tour of Belgium and a World Ports Classic stage. Maarten is also the heaviest rider to hold on to the mountain jersey in the Giro d’Italia for more than a week.
Going back to Africa, where Maarten grew up was a big move in his life but after picking up mountain biking again he has already got his eyes firmly set on the next goal which is cycling the Cape Epic.
